Humpty Dumpty took a great fall!
In an unfortunate event this heavy column took a wee tumble. Coming down with a clatter (or so I am told) the top of the marble column came unstuck. Heritage Restorations to the rescue.
For this green marble pedestal we were fortunate enough to be able to visit the scene of the crime and collect the broken pieces. In any antique restoration it is paramount to get an accurate colour match. We collected up all the evidence and ground the pieces, using a mortar and pestle. Once we had them close to dust we added the secret ingredient…Marble glue. By carefully moulding our concoction we were able to restore the column back to original condition. We were really proud of the match and hopefully next time it is on the move it is handled more gingerly.
